The little things make a difference...

Jesus never wrote a book. He never appeared on Larry King Live. He lived in a small corner of the globe and never traveled outside of it. Jesus' life was a short 33 years in length and his career a miniscule 3 years. What's my point? The world can be changed in a positive way by people carrying out their God given calling in their own neighborhoods, without fanfare or recognition. It is the little things we do that add up to monumental things. Sharing a meal with a friend, caring for a neighbor who just had surgery, smiling at the cashier, saying "hello" to a complete stranger, are all normally and customary activities that God uses to reach deep into people's souls.

Yes, the little things do make a difference. My husband and I attended Asbury for 5 1/2 months. Except for the rushed handshake as we filed out the door, not one of the 2 pastors approached us to even say hello or acknowledge our presence. A little thing. I'll share one more "little thing". I was there for the "summer camp meeting". I've attended many camp meeting's in my lifetime. It seemed you all were so pre-occupied with the flowered shirts and lack of socks that you really missed an opportunity. Not one testimony of how God changed anyone's life. That's one thing that I remember from the hot summer days, of all day camp meeting's, were the testimonies. I left the church at age 18. I thought God couldn't be there for me, a sinner. But after 30 years HE gave me a testimony. We've attended 3 Methodist churches in the past 3 years. I've not heard one testimony. A "little thing"?? Where's the excitement for what Christ has done for us? It's not in our sunday worship services. I don't want to follow the program; bulletin. I don't want to feel like I'm just putting in my "sunday" time in church. I want to follow what God wants to do. Now that would be a sunday worship! Yes, God desires and cries for the little things from us.....

One more response and then I'll leave it alone. Remember, that sunday morning worship is the guage and door to whether you will feel comfortable at the wed prayer meeting, small group, etc. For the past 2 months we've been gathering in our home and other people's homes, with Christians who are weary of the ritual of "veteran Christians" idea of worship on sunday morning. For now, we are trusting God to lead us and take care of us. We pray for the day that we hear of God's moving among his complacent disciples. I'm not talking about outreach, Asbury is overflowing in outreach, but seeking God in unbrideled prayer, praise, and worship.Your namesake, Asbury collge, is coming up on an anniversary of a moving of God's spirit, started by hearing a TESTIIMONY from a student. We're watching and listening for the news that God is in the House, we pray for that. Seek renewal, show us the excitement of knowing that God reigns and lives in us. Not just on weekdays, but sunday mornings. That's the day when sinners know that God's people are in His house, and the day they may decide to walk in....
