Ordinary Time (Kingdomtide) begins!

The Christian calendar tells the wondrous story of Christ. We begin the year waiting for the coming of the Lord (ie. Advent). This can be analogous to the Old Testament times of the Jews waiting for the coming of the Messiah. Christmastide allows us to celebrate the birth of the Saviour and recognize that God is near to us. The Lenten season helps us prepare with repentant hearts. In it, we realize that Christ came to make a difference in our lives and this world. This takes place when we assimilate our lives to Jesus' which begins with repentance. Eastertide celebrates the risen Saviour and the church He birthed. And then we move into what is known as Ordinary time or Kingdomtide if you are United Methodist. This is an elongated season of living into and building the Kingdom of God. It marks the time after Jesus' ascension and will consumate with Christ the King Sunday the week before Advent starts. In the big picture, we are today living in the season of Kingdomtide! We look forward to the day when Christ will return and finalize His reign. June 3, 2007 Trinity Sunday (First Sunday after Pentecost) Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 Psalm 8 Romans 5:1-5 John 16:12-15

Hey Todd~
Isn't blogging great? I "preached" (more like "spoke," but whatever)at my home church in Alabama several months ago and talked about Kingdomtide...(if my memory serves me correctly). Its such a beautiful thought, and such a comfort to think of ourselves not isolated in time, but instead connected to followers of Jesus throughout the ages through the calendar. Anyway, I posted my sermon on my blog. Check it out when you get a chance. Thanks for everything--you are kind and gracious.
